One day, I’m running the streets of Roanoke, Virginia with Maggie and the next, she’s walking down the aisle with Jeb.  It feels that way at least.  Maggie is such a special friend I met when she was in high school.  She always found a way to make me laugh, especially when we found ourselves at ridiculous locations or restaurants after a track or cross country meet.  Maggie is the kind of person you just want to be around, spend time with – so when she asked me to be a part of her wedding day, I accepted enthusiastically.  It was such a joy to meet Jeb and get to know him and his great family over the wedding weekend in Charlottesville.  He is such a match for Maggie and so kind.  From the rehearsal at the Bryan’s gorgeous family barn (post to come) to the wedding at the same church Jeb’s parents were married, to the King Family Vineyards reception, the celebration was perfect. I saw the Moore clan, the Roanoke crew, saw a 2018 bride, and met new lovely humans, all with camera in hand.  A good weekend indeed.  A huge thank you to Just a Little Diddy for pulling together amazing vendors (links below), timelines, and in general loveliness all around, what a great team!

I’m so excited for these two to build their life and family together.  Enjoy some photos of the day!

I met Anne on the tennis courts in high school and heard about her for years after.  Everyone always commented on how kind Anne was.  Fast forward years and miles and I had the honor to photograph Anne and Sam’s engagements, Anne’s Bridal Portraits, AND their wedding at Firefly Winery.  Every time I see these two I feel such joy and sweetness.  When Anne emailed a few months after their son was born, I knew I would have to find a way down to SWVA to photograph their sweet family.  I’m so grateful for clients who become friends and let me be a part of their life.  Congrats to this sweet family.

They met in first grade and he invited her to his birthday party.

The beginnings of a beautiful love story, a love story between a boy and a girl but a love story so much more than that.

Caroline and Landon grew up in the mountains of Roanoke, Virginia and developed a friendship through years of school together and then Young Life.  They both fell in love and began their own stories with Him along the way.  When they were both students at JMU and Young Life volunteers they fell in love.

I had the honor to meet Caroline for coffee to talk about their wedding day and photography.  She knew many good friends of mine, including another Bride.  It was wonderful to hear the plans she and Landon were making as well as see the joy in the journey as she talked.

On the most pleasant July summer day these two promised to love and serve together on top of a hill overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It was a beautiful day from Caroline’s smile to Landon’s laugh and goofing off with his future (my former) boss. I loved watching Caroline’s dad hug her and quietly take the day in and Landon’s father blow up their first grade photo and show it off at the reception.  It was in many ways a culmination of so much and the beginning of so much more.

I am so excited for what is ahead for them in Roanoke and the community there. Details and vendor information below.

Lizzie was a freshman when I met her. Full of spunk and fashion, even then.  I loved her desire for life and always loved when she was around for an event, a breakfast, or a high school football game.  It was a joy to spend time with her during her high school years and have significant conversations as well as share a lot of laughter along the way. Imagine my delight when she asked me to come to Roanoke, meet her fiancee, Franklin and photograph their wedding.  Truly an honor and joy to be with these girls on their wedding days.

Lizzie and Franklin met at Sewanee, but did not start dating until after they were both living in Nashville.  It was so fun to watch the Sewanee crew celebrate at the wedding since Sewanee holds a special place for me as I finish up my MFA from the School of Letters.

Their wedding was a beautiful black tie affair with a ceremony at 2nd Presbyterian followed by a rocking reception at the Roanoke Country Club.  Lizzie looked stunning in her Oscar de la Renta gown and Franklin’s reaction when they first saw one another was so sweet and real, it made me fall in love with weddings and photography all over again.  One of my favorite parts of the night was the rap Lizzie’s sisters, also dear friends from their high school days, performed for her.  There are a few photos showing Lizzie and Franklin’s reaction that you have to see to get a feel for the rap.  Hilarious. What a joy to be there and see Lizzie and Franklin unite in marriage, see many wonderful old friends, and meet some new!

I am so grateful to have been a part of the day – and excited for these two as they build a life together in Music City.

I am deeply grateful for Carrie Michelle’s assistance and art as a wonderful second shooter and Andrea Ferris Events for all the amazing coordination.  Thank you so much! More information on the details of this day below.
