Lizzie was a freshman when I met her. Full of spunk and fashion, even then.  I loved her desire for life and always loved when she was around for an event, a breakfast, or a high school football game.  It was a joy to spend time with her during her high school years and have significant conversations as well as share a lot of laughter along the way. Imagine my delight when she asked me to come to Roanoke, meet her fiancee, Franklin and photograph their wedding.  Truly an honor and joy to be with these girls on their wedding days.

Lizzie and Franklin met at Sewanee, but did not start dating until after they were both living in Nashville.  It was so fun to watch the Sewanee crew celebrate at the wedding since Sewanee holds a special place for me as I finish up my MFA from the School of Letters.

Their wedding was a beautiful black tie affair with a ceremony at 2nd Presbyterian followed by a rocking reception at the Roanoke Country Club.  Lizzie looked stunning in her Oscar de la Renta gown and Franklin’s reaction when they first saw one another was so sweet and real, it made me fall in love with weddings and photography all over again.  One of my favorite parts of the night was the rap Lizzie’s sisters, also dear friends from their high school days, performed for her.  There are a few photos showing Lizzie and Franklin’s reaction that you have to see to get a feel for the rap.  Hilarious. What a joy to be there and see Lizzie and Franklin unite in marriage, see many wonderful old friends, and meet some new!

I am so grateful to have been a part of the day – and excited for these two as they build a life together in Music City.

I am deeply grateful for Carrie Michelle’s assistance and art as a wonderful second shooter and Andrea Ferris Events for all the amazing coordination.  Thank you so much! More information on the details of this day below.

I’m so excited to share a very special wedding!  Claire and Brett, our dear cousins and friends were married at the Zirkle farm on the most beautiful Virginia summer day!  It was truly a joy to watch the two of them soak in the love and joy of all their family and friends.  I am so grateful to have photographed this day – the details were so wonderful and the people the best!  Claire and Brett put together a gorgeous day for their family and friends!  Our farm is not a ready made wedding venue, so it required a lot of work for Claire to create beautiful pieces for the barn.  She worked with our good friend Jaime on the details of the day.  This is Wade’s family’s farm, and the same spot we were married, so it holds a very special place in our hearts! Brett’s father managed the farm for a very long time, and for Brett, it was sweet to be married where he worked with his dad for many years.  It was beautiful to watch Claire’s family jump in and create a beautiful space for the day, they are like an army of help and love.   It was extra special to have our family wine, Richard Bocking, served as well.   She even thought to put oriental rugs in the barn for  added texture and beauty!

The bridesmaids got ready at our house and I loved watching the space I’d envisioned for photos come to life with all these beautiful women buzzing around and getting married.  Claire’s hair and makeup was a work of art, so much so I have an appointment with her stylist at Gigi La Rue tomorrow! Everything about the day was fun and joy filled, from Claire’s amazing dress to watching Brett “get ready” with his groomsmen by swimming at his farm’s quarry.  Their first look and Bridal party cocktails were at my Sister in Law’s great house and it made the perfect spot for photos!  I also loved the adorable photo booth they had at the farm.  The Rosy Co. is a new business in the valley and very adorable and fun.

One of my favorite parts to the day was watching Claire and Brett, and Millie walk out of the ceremony together.  Their smiles were so big and right up against the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Joy was everywhere, and that’s the best for a wedding day!

They danced the night away in the barn, so fitting for this amazing couple. We love you Wightmans!

I had to sneak in a shot of this handsome man.

I met Jamie through a mutual mentor, and I love that.  We spent just a little time together in DC when I lived there, but it was good and deep, refreshing for my soul.  Since I last laid my eyes on her, she and her husband have had two beautiful babies and created a great little family in the heart of DC.  It was such a JOY to spend an afternoon with them in their home watching them play, interact, and simply be.  I think that is why I love at home sessions so much – no tears, no fighting – no stressed out mammas, just laughter and play. I always walk away feeling like everyone wins a little pot of gold in the form of joy and beautiful, real, images.

Thanks so much to this family for having me, and here’s to a visit soon!

A military wedding in Colorado that could not be more lovely and sweet.  I am so grateful I had the honor to be a part of Katelyn and Sean’s wedding day (and life) in Colorado Springs.   They both graduated in May, he got commissioned, and then they got married.  I met Katelyn when we hired her to be our intern on a project with Young Life.  She was extraordinary and a delight to be with.  When I moved back to Virginia, we were able to continue our friendship and hung out weekly.  She is so wise and encouraging to me, so naturally her wedding was also encouraging to my spirit  I loved the morning wedding, breakfast buffet, photos with the Jeep that started it all, and watching them pray together as they committed to God and one another.  I am SO grateful for such a dear friend in this wonderful soul.  I’m happy for the man she has committed to as well they are the perfect match and I know they will grow so much together as they adventure through life!
